While MSMS was established as a middle school in 1995, our site has served over 35,000 students from the cities of Cotati and Rohnert Park since 1964. We have kept up with the times with over $8 million of upgrades during seven phases of modernization. MSMS has a great story that lies within our classroom walls.

At MSMS, the story begins with people—students, instructional assistants, teachers, support staff, parents/guardians, and every person working here to make sure your child is well supported personally and academically in our exceptional [programs. We at MSMS love this age group. Early adolescence is a wonderful time and we are the lucky ones who get to work with them everyday. Middle school students are some of the most courageous, compassionate, inquisitive, humorous, talented, creative, and intelligent people you will come to know. Middle school is one of the best kept secrets and we are excited to be able to work with this age group.

MSMS has been honored as a California Distinguished School in 2003. In addition, MSMS has received the Sonoma County Office of Education Program of Excellence Award, the Sonoma State University Jack London Award for Educational Excellence in 2003. In 2005, MSMS received a Golden bell Award from the California School Board Association.

Mountain Shadows Middle School is committed to providing high-quality education to our diverse student body. We achieve our goals through a challenging curriculum, quality teachers, and an atmosphere that emphasizes communication and cooperation. Together, these elements create a safe and engaging learning environment in which all students can excel.
